We left Acadia heading for Machias Maine where we would stay at the Margaretta Inn because we had booked a boat trip out of nearby Cutler Maine with Bold Coast charters.
We decided to drive along the water and through Schoodic Peninsula on our way. We hadn’t planned this route but decided to take it on a whim and it was absolutely gorgeous. Around each turn we say another harbor or overlook and we stopped so many times for photos. It was a stunningly beautiful day with bright blue skies and puffy clouds and when we got to Machias I somehow deleted all of the photos so we had to drive through again on our way back just to recapture the views. a few of these photos were actually taken on 8/6/2018 on our way back to the airport to fill in from the photos that I had deleted.
Our hotel was a little roadside hotel that had just a few rooms. Our room was tiny and basic with a bed and a small bathroom and not much else, but it was clean and had good air conditioning so we decided that it was fine. We got settled and decided to take a ride out to Cutler to see where the boat trip would launch because we had read that it was difficult to find. Along the way we spotted a moose in a field and we stopped to take pictures. We drove to Cutler and did find the turn off where the board dock was so that we’d be sure to be on time in the morning. We then returned to Machias to the hotel. We decided to have dinner at a restaurant just up the road which was like a diner but absolutely jammed with locals. The food was delicious and there wasn’t much else in town anyway.
After dinner we went to check out the Subway to see if we could stop there in the morning to get breakfast as well as sandwiches to take for the boat ride and found that it would work fine and was open in time.
We then headed back to the hotel to get a good night sleep for our big boat trip to Puffin Island in the morning.
