1/12/2018 – Key West

Writer: sridgway38sridgway38

We travelled to Key West in January of 2018 for our 30th wedding anniversary.

We flew from Philadelphia to Miami and picked up our white mustang convertible at the Miami airport for a drive through the keys. It was an overcast day so having a convertible was fun but we had to stop and put the top up a few times.

The drive down through the keys was very pretty with beautiful blue water, but many of the keys were still recovering from Hurricane Irma September 2017 so we also saw a lot of damage and a lot of piles of material piled beside the road waiting for pick-up.

We saw Pelicans and Cormorants perched on ricks just beside the road on our drive

We walked along a bridge that was built along the highway, they had built a long walking bridge right beside the railroad bridge. We met some fishermen on the bridge who pointed out these rays in the water. You couldn’t see them very well but there were a few.

It took several hours to drive down through the keys to get to our hotel. We decided to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn which was just as you enter Key West 3850 North Roosevelt Boulevard, Key West, Florida, 33040, USA We decided to head down into town as soon as we got our suitcases into the room, and get some dinner and see the sunset on Mallory Square.

After sunset we went in search of a place to eat. We ended up leaving the party end of Duval street and drove down towards the old town “quiet” end of things and found a cute little Italian Restaurant called “new York Pasta Garden. The food was good, and the glasses of wine were huge. We sat outside on a little mall area, and watched the birds in the trees.  They had two Macaws and 3 African parrots that were perch outside not in cages. Very entertaining to watch them.

After dinner we decided to walk to the Southernmost point to see if we could get a picture there. It was dark but at least we knew where to head in the morning when we did more sightseeing.

We also found a little shop that sold Key Lime pie on our way back and sat on the porch and had a slice.

At that point it had been a very long day and we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep, but not before noticing that when we opened the doors of the car it projected a little mustang logo in light on the ground.
