2023- Grand Cayman -Friday February 10th

Writer: sridgway38sridgway38

Friday was our travel day. Conrad and I and Conrad and Steph spent the night before at a hotel at the airport so that we could get to the airport early. We had some difficulty checking in for our flight because of the 2 Conrad’s on the reservation but Janice at American Airlines got it all sorted out and we were on our way. The first flight into charlotte was uneventful and we made it in plenty of time to get to our connection. Other than a gate change all seemed fine with the second flight until we boarded. The pilot came on to say that there was weather in Northern Florida and that we’d be delayed by about an hour. He wanted everyone on the plane so that as soon as we were cleared we could take off. finally we pulled back from the gate and headed towards the runway. Conrad mentioned that the pilot seemed to be oddly revving the engines but we didn’t think too much of it until he came back on to say that the left engine would not start. Back to the gate and off the plane we went. The igniter for that engine was bad. They were able to replace it at the gate, find a new pilot because ours was running overtime and get is back onto the plan and we finally took off just shy of 3 hours late. Our flight attendants had all been on our PHL to CLT flight with us and then changed planes and were also on the CLT to CGM flight. The positive was that because we were late they thought that they would probably get to spend the night in Grand cayman and they were excited about it. The whole thing was handled efficiently and very professionally by American.

When we landed at the airport Cody and Kasey had already been in Grand Cayman for hours and had taken a taxi to our AirBnB. We were supposed to pick up the rental can but by the time we landed National had closed – who closes and airport rental location at 5PM?

We got in line for a taxi and had a very nice driver named Sherrell who offered to come pick us up in the morning and take us back to the airport to pick up the cars since we are pretty far from the airport but close to where she lives.

We got settled into the beautiful beachfront home where we’re staying, walked down the street to a little market to get a few essentials and then enjoyed the evening with the kids around the table having dinner and catching up. We have known since Christmas that Conrad and Steph are expecting, but we found out today that it’s a Boy!!

It was a crazy hectic day but we’re all here now and looking forward to a beautiful week.
