PCH Day 3

This trip was originally supposed to be on the end of my normal week at work in the Santa Monica office, but as the Covid Virus had started to spread, that trip was cancelled by Amazon. Conrad had already purchased his plane tickets so we decided to go anyway.  Conrad was originally going to fly out to meet me on Thursday March 5, so we both flew out to LAX together. We stayed at a hilton at the airport  on Thursday night. We carried disinfecting wipes with us and wiped down everything, but at that point there was no guidance to wear masks so we didn’t. We woke up Friday morning and since I didn’t need to go to the office as it was closed we went to see the Poppies at Antelope Canyon Poppy Reserve. It was fairly early in the season so there were fewer poppies that had bloomed but we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

After the Poppy reserve we looked for a place to have lunch Trip Advisor led us to a little road side bar called The Rock Inn that had a bunch of motorcycles outside. It was a really cute little place and very busy. the food was great and the guy behind the bar was serving all of the tables. He was really incredible.

After we had a great lunch and some coffee, we decided to go find a road nearby that if you drive along the road your tires play the theme song from the lone ranger.

Here’s a video of us driving the road – sound on.

After we finished with the road, we headed back to the airport, returned our rental car, and went to the airport to see if we could get an earlier flight to San Jose where we were going to start our drive down the PCH. We were able to get an earlier flight and we even got upgraded to first class. Our seats weren’t together, but the guy next to me offered to switch so that we could be together which was very nice.

Here’s Conrad in his first class seat –

When we arrived in SJC we picked up another rental car and headed to our hotel for the night. We grabbed some dinner in the hotel lobby and went to sleep so that we could start our drive early the next morning.
