Early this morning we left Florence for Venice. Venice is actually a series of islands which I didn’t realize. Our bus dropped us on the “parking island” and from there we went by motor boat to the main island of Venice. We had most of the day to ourselves there so we wandered around the square and took some pictures of St. marks church in Venice. We went and saw a glass blowing demonstration at one of the shops. We saw some amazing glass sculptures and jewelry.
Next we went up the bell tower from which we could see a pan aromatic view of all sides of Venice.
Here is a photo from the boat on the way in.

We then spent a few hours just relaxing at a cafe on the water. We had Proseco and crisps, and a few other nice things. By coincidence, the America’s cup sailboat races were in Venice today and when the race was over the sail boats came up the main canal several times right in front of our cafe. It was a lovely way to pass the afternoon. A few photos below from the cafe.
After the cafe we took a Gondola ride to finish out our day, and are back at the hotel having thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Tomorrow it is off to Switzerland where we will stay for two days which should be a bit more restful.
