6/19/2021 Tahoe Day 2

Writer: sridgway38sridgway38

We woke up early and took a walk into the little square since we were still on east coast time. The stores were mostly closed and it was cool and quiet but we did get a latte at Starbucks. We then headed back to the Townhouse to get ready for our Kayaking trip.

We headed to a Safeway nearby to meet the Clearly Tahoe Kayak crew in the parking lot where they had a kiosk. We got all signed in and got our life vests. The woman that checked us in went to Bloomsburg, grew up in Scranton and moved out to Tahoe after College. We then met our Guide Mariah who was an adorable tiny young woman who would lead our Kayak tour.

We boarded the van and headed to the launch site. Mariah had a regular kayak but with pedals that she used instead of paddles. That allowed her to kayak backwards and keep an eye on everyone and talk easily about what we were seeing.

We mostly kayaked along the coast towards Cave Rock a rocky outcropping along the coast and where we had travelled through via a small tunnel on our way into town. We say a really nice house on the coast along the way and we then pulled into a quiet cove to take some pictures.

Mariah pulled her Kayak up along a group of Rocks and got out to take some pictures for everyone.

Because the kayak was clear you could take photos right through the bottom of the kayak

After we got home form the Kayak trip the kids hung around the townhouse and did their own thing and Conrad and I decided to drive around the lake – which would take us several hours. It was very very busy everywhere so we didn’t get to pull over at many of the scenic areas that we had hoped to. Near Emerald Bay we found a street spot a ways away from the overlook so we hiked back along the highway to get a few shots of Emerald Bay

After we left Emerald bay we started to look for a lunch spot. Everything was very crowded but we happened upon a little parking area with some shops and restaurants  and we found a really cute little place called Jakes on the Lake. The hamburgers were good and the view was really nice. There were lots of people walking dogs and there was a great breeze out on the deck where we were sitting. It was just the break we needed.

After lunch we headed back around the lake to the townhouse. I needed a nap and we had a dinner reservation at 7. We all headed out to an Italian restaurant called Scusa in South lake tahoe. Good italian food and even better company. Just before we got back to the townhouse we pulled over at a public beach for some sunset pictures.
