8/1/2013 – Alaska – Starting the journey

Writer: sridgway38sridgway38

We are flying out of Philadelphia this morning. Our United flight was to leave at 6:00 AM. We had planned to get up at 3:45 but everyone was up before that and we were out the door by 4:45. It was smooth sailing down the blue route to the airport. We had an awful lot of luggage for 4 people but got the bags checked and through security in time to get a little breakfast before boarding. The flight is completely full and some people had too much carry on luggage to fit in the overheads but luckily ours fit fine. We were slightly delayed taking off as they checked some of the carry-ons but are on the way to Chicago O’Hare where we will change planes for our flight into Anchorage.

Cody is still tired – here he is sleeping on the plane.

Our flight out of Chicago took off a bit late. The flight was supposed to be full but there were a number of delays in the area and so there ended up being quite a few empty seats. We got lucky and had empty seats in our row so we each had either a window or aisle seat with an empty seat between us. They served breakfast on the flight which was really about lunch time for us. It was actually very good food. I had the energy box which was a hard boiled egg, grapes, a mini pita, a piece of sharp cheese and some almond butter. Conrad had a Ham and Swiss baguette with a sliced hard boiled egg. Cody and Mom had a classic snack box which had crackers and apple sauce and cookies. The cost was quite reasonable. We are due to arrive in Anchorage at about 1:30 Alaska time or 5:30 home time.

Towards the of the flight as we were getting closer to Anchorage we flew over some really beautiful mountains and glaciers.
