Sunday May 22

We got up early today to finish packing. The packing is a bit more careful due to the nature of the trip. We will spend a week on land, hiking, landing on glaciers, and in warmer areas. Once we board the ship it will be cooler since we’ll be on the water and in some cases near the glaciers, we will need full on winter snow gear in order to be outside. When we arrive in Fairbanks we can take one large suitcase which will travel ahead of us each day to “meet us at our next hotel”. We can label bags to meet us at the cruise ship one week into the trip and we can carry small bags which must fit under the seat in a bus or train. Since we won’t be dressing up for meals on the first portion of the trip, we will pack the garment bag with all dress clothes and shoes and put them in the ‘meet us at the ship” category and say goodbye to those at the airport in fairbanks. We have 2 Large suitcases which will travel with us and meet us at the hotel each night. My camera bag will be carry on to each excursion and trip on land. Then we just need to collapse our 2 plane carry on bags into one and we will be good to go.
We are trying to be very careful when we go out so that we don’t get covid since they won’t allow us on the ship if we test positive.
I’ve decided to try a new blogging method this trip. I usually write my blog in the evening on the boat or hotel, often after dinner. I also try to upload and edit my photos for the blog at the same time. It’s a bit stressful and tiring so this trip i’ve decided to take my ReMarkable2 tablet. I can hand write on the tablet during the day and then in one step convert my writing to text and send it to myself in an email. That way I can write about the things that we see from the buses or on the bus or train on the way back to the hotel which is just wasted time. We’ll see how it works out. This entry was written that way.
Tomorrow morning we will get up and do a small final pack – final house cleaning and head to the airport to start the journey. This trip was delayed due to covid for 2 years so we are very excited.
