Barcelona Day I Saturday 5/27/23

Writer: sridgway38sridgway38

We flew from Philadelphia to Barcelona in first class overnight. The seats were lay flat seats. We had a really good filet dinner and then went to sleep. I was able to sleep very well but Conrad was not.

First Class!!

Appetizer on the plane

Dinner on the plane – Filet and twice baked potato

When we arrived at the airport we were met by Eugene our driver who took us to our hotel The Serras which is on the older part of town called the Gothic quarter. We had some brunch at the hotel and the breakfast manager, Sandra came to talk with us for a bit and ended up comping our breakfast. She was very sweet and in all of the reviews of the hotel, everyone mentions her.

Our room was not ready so we went to take a walk along the port. The port is beautiful with many yachts and there were parrots singing in all of the trees. We stopped back at the hotel and looked at the view of the city. They have a rooftop bar overlooking the port with a bar and a plunge pool which is really beautiful.

We walked from the hotel to the the Ramblas which is the main pedestrian street. It was full of people out for a walk. Lots of Cafe’s and shops lined the street. We stoped at a Large market (La Boqueria Market) that had rows of food and candy stalls as well as tapas and ice cream. The candy stalls were beautifully colored from the treats. There were squid and other fish on ice as well as smoked and cured meat. It was packed.

we continued up the Ramblas and since Conrad’s suitcase got broken on the plane, we walked to a luggage shop and bought him a replacement. We then took a taxi back to the hotel to see if our room was ready. It was so we got showered and changed and had a rest before heading back out into the city.

We took a walk down by the water again after we got our camera. The Columbus statue is on the main road that runs along the port and at the intersection of the Ramblas. It is deceptively tall and there is a elevator that goes up the middle to ab observation deck at Columbus’s feet.

There was a huge yacht in the harbor called Barbara owned by Felix Baker the owner of a Hedge fund. we have seen this Yacht before. There was also a yacht called Lady Moura that we had never seen before.

We went to take pictures of the Cathedral de Barcelona, on the way to our dinner in a small Tapas restaurant near the hotel. We had several small plates and we discovered Kava.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep because tomorrow we see the famous church called la Sagrada Familia. We were happy to have stayed awake for the day so that we can adjust to the timezone here in Spain.
